The Los Angeles Sparks have hired Atlanta Dream assistant Carol Ross as their new coach, replacing Joe “Jellybean” Bryant. Bryant, the father of Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant, began his second stint as head coach in July after Jennifer Gillom was dismissed. Ross spent the last three seasons with Atlanta, which reached the WNBA finals in 2010 and 2011.

As an assistant coach with the Indiana Fever, Gary Kloppenburg scouted the Tulsa Shock the last few years. So, when he learned that the Shock were looking for a head coach, he jumped at the opportunity. “Tulsa has a good core group of players,” Kloppenburg said Wednesday after being introduced as the Shock’s head coach.

The Tulsa Shock hired Indiana Fever assistant Gary Kloppenburg on Tuesday to be their next head coach. Kloppenburg spent the past four seasons with the Fever, who made the playoffs each of those seasons and lost in the Eastern Conference finals last year. He also has been an assistant coach for the WNBA’s Seattle Storm and the Charlotte Bobcats of the NBA.

The Seattle Storm have traded WNBA All-Star Swin Cash and forward Le’coe Willingham to the Chicago Sky for the No. 2 pick in the 2012 draft. The teams announced the deal on Monday. Seattle also sent a second-round pick to Chicago, the 23rd overall. Seattle coach and general manager Brian Agler says the trade will free up significant salary cap space for the Storm.

The Los Angeles Sparks have beaten the odds to win the top pick in the 2012 WNBA draft. The Sparks had the smallest chance of the four teams with a shot at winning Thursday’s draft lottery, with only 104 out of 1,000 chances. They are the second team in the 11-year history of the lottery to win with the fewest number of chances.

On her right was Seimone Augustus, waving and smiling as the Minnesota Lynx caravan crawled through downtown Minneapolis in celebration of their first WNBA title.
