Guard Erin Phillips has signed a multi-year contract to return to the Indiana Fever. The Fever re-signed Phillips, a restricted free agent who started 22 games at point guard for the club in 2011, by matching an offer sheet from the Phoenix Mercury. The Fever acquired Phillips as part of a three-team offseason trade prior to the 2011 season.

New Tulsa Shock coach Gary Kloppenburg is retaining Kathy McConnell-Miller as one of the assistants on his coaching staff. The Shock announced Friday that McConnell-Miller will remain with the team after serving as an assistant for the final 19 games of last season. She was brought in after Nolan Richardson was fired and assistant Teresa Edwards was promoted to interim coach.

The Washington Mystics have acquired guard Noelle Quinn from the Los Angeles Sparks for forward Marissa Coleman in a swap of former high first-round draft picks. Quinn was the No. 4 overall selection by the Minnesota Lynx in the 2007 draft. She was shipped to the Mystics on Wednesday after spending the last three seasons with the Sparks.

The Minnesota Lynx have re-signed center Jessica Adair. The team announced the deal Thursday but did not disclose terms. Adair appeared in 31 regular-season games during Minnesota’s championship run last year. The 6-4 center averaged 4.3 points and 2.9 rebounds a game while shooting .485 percent from the floor, and scored in double-figures twice.

The Minnesota Lynx have re-signed 41-year-old center Taj McWilliams-Franklin. The Lynx announced the deal on Monday, ensuring that their emotional leader will return to help them defend the WNBA championship. McWilliams-Franklin averaged 8.3 points and 6.0 rebounds last year. Her scoring increased to 10.6 points in the playoffs as she helped the franchise to its first title.

In a Jan. 20 story on the U.S. women’s basketball assistant coaches, The Associated Press erroneously reported that Pat Summitt won a gold medal as both a player and coach. Summitt won a silver medal as a player in 1976 and gold as a coach in 1984.

Candace Parker and the Los Angeles Sparks will open the 16th WNBA season against Sue Bird and the Seattle Storm on May 18. The defending WNBA champion Minnesota Lynx, featuring finals MVP Seimone Augustus and rookie of the year Maya Moore, will play Phoenix on May 20 on ABC. The 12-team summer league will take a break for the London Olympics from July 14 to Aug.
Shock get Temeka Johnson in trade with Mercury (AP)

The Tulsa Shock acquired starting point guard Temeka Johnson from the Phoenix Mercury on Thursday night in exchange for Andrea Riley. Johnson started 30 games for Phoenix last season, averaging 6.4 points and 4.4 assists. She started every game for the Mercury team that won the 2009 WNBA championship and also didn’t miss a start in 2010.
Former Auburn coach returns to sideline with Dream (AP)

Former Auburn women’s basketball coach Joe Ciampi is returning to the sideline. The WNBA’s Atlanta Dream announced Wednesday that Ciampi (CHAM-pee) will serve as an assistant this season for head coach and general manager Marynell Meadors. Ciampi spent 25 years at Auburn, leading the Tigers to three straight appearances in the NCAA championship game from 1988-90.
