Poker Event Starts Final Table With Even Chips

At the World Series of Poker Event 24 started with even chips for all players at the final table. The event was a shootout, which means that each player has to win his table before moving on. This means that at the start of each round all players have the same amount of chips. This WSOP event kicked off its final table with 1.5 million in chips for each poker pro. In the end it was Mark Radoja, who finished third in the $5,000 NL Hold'em Six-Max Event of 2010, who took the victory and $436,568.

Poker Revenue Up for One Company

While the world of online poker continues to find it's heading amidst the US Government attack, one poker company ha reported a substantial increase in its revenue. HeadsUp Entertainment International made the positive announcement on Friday that they are doing well. HeadsUp Entertainment International owns the Canadian Poker Player Magazine as well as the Canadian Poker Tour, which hosts poker games across the country. The Canadian Poker Player Television Network is also part of the company, and it announced that poker revenue was more than $517,000 USD in the first quarter of this year.

Poker Run Helps Children With Cancer

The Chapel Hill House is to benefit from a poker run. The cabin was converted to provide a place for families to stay while dealing with cancer. It was supposed to be a retirement vacation home for Jason Joseph's father when he was diagnosed with cancer. He went through with obtaining the cabin but then donated it to become a charity retreat. A recent poker run had poker players from the area participate in the Ride for a Cure, the Friends of Chapel Hill House poker run.

One of the largest first place prizes of the season was won yesterday at the 2011 WSOP. The World Series of Poker Event 18 paid out $735,400 for first place. The winner was Foster Hays, who outlasted five tough players in the final day of play in the $1,500 no-limit hold’em event. Hays is an amateur poker player from Dallas, Texas where he works during the day as a medical researcher. Hot on the heels of his countryman ElkY yet another French poker pro has won a WSOP event. World Series of Poker Event 22 went to Elie Payan. Payan beat out 1071 players, the largest field ever for a pot-limit Omaha tournament, in order to win his $292,825. Payan is a project manager from Orleans, France, and is 27 years old. The $1,500 pot-limit Omaha Event 22 was the first WSOP victory for the man who goes by "Punisher934" when playing online – and the first WSOP event he'd ever played.

Grospellier Snags WSOP Bracelet

The World Series of Poker $10k Stud event is over and done and has it's winner. Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier is the latest WSOP bracelet winner. ElkY, who once said he would retire from being a poker pro, beat out 126 players to win the prize and $331,639. This event was number 21, and ElkY has added its winnings to his total live tournament career earnings, which now approach eight million dollars. His furthest run in a WSOP event before this was a 9th place finish in 2007.

Online Poker Room Suit Coming

In 2008 Connie Gowan filed a suit against Titlware that was dismissed in 2010. This year the decision was overturned and now the poker pro's suit against Tiltware is back on. Tiltware owns online poker room Full Tilt Poker, and Gowan was an official pro for them starting in 2004. She was offered 1% of the company in return, and when they tried to pay her $250k she refused, saying that it was not the right amount. They let her go and she filed suit. Now, amid all their problems with the US Government, the online poker room will have to deal with this lawsuit.

Poker Room Signs Soccer Pro

One online poker room has signed on a soccer playing legend. Poker site 888Poker now has Santiago Cañizares as part of their crew. The football legend will be a brand ambassador for 888.com, which owns 888poker. The arrangement will last at least a year, and the online poker room hopes that it will “ bolster the 888 brand presence in Spain and beyond”. Cañizares is a former Spanish national goalkeeper and has a Champions League title as well as two La Liga medals and a UEFA Cup.

The latest limit holdem event of the 2011 WSOP has come and gone. Event 14 was won by Tyler Bonkowski. Bonkowski outlasted 337 poker players to win the World Series of Poker event, pocketing $220,817 and his first WSOP bracelet. He was down as much as 12 to 1 in chips during heads up play, so his final victory over Brandon Demes was a dramatic one. Demes took $136,419 for second place while Andrew Brongo took third and $100,198, and Shawn Keller won $74,171 for fourth place.

Australia May Legalize Online Poker

In the face of the US's apparent war against online poker a world away some are moving to make the past time legal. In Australia an online sports betting operator is pushing for legalizing poker. Andrew Twaits says the current legislation is not working in regards to online poker. Twaits is the owner of Betfair, which also owns a poker room.
