Colorado Rockies closer Huston Street has had another setback in his attempt to overcome the right shoulder stiffness that has bothered him all spring. Cleveland’s superstar said Wednesday night that he’s “probably not playing” for Team USA this summer in the world championships in Turkey. James, who was a captain on the U.S. team that won a gold medal at the Beijing Games in 2008, is eligible for free agency after the season and is scheduled to film a movie.

Pittsburgh men’s basketball coach Jamie Dixon signed a two-year contract extension Wednesday, ending any speculation he might leave the Panthers for a higher-paying job. Dixon was already signed through the 2015-16 season, at a salary of about $1.6 million per season. The new deal runs through 2017-18, meaning Dixon is under contract for the next eight seasons.



Texas 2B Kinsler expects to open on DL (AP)

Texas Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler is expecting to open the season on the disabled list because of a high ankle sprain. The Rangers on Sunday acquired Andres Blanco from the Chicago Cubs partially as insurance in case Kinsler was unable to open the season. Kinsler says there is no timetable for his return.

Minnesota Twins leadoff man Denard Span hit a hard foul ball that struck his mom in the chest during Wednesday’s game. She was treated by paramedics and back in the stands minutes later. “My mom is feeling ok right now!” Span later posted on his Twitter account. John Andretti gets Indy 500 ride (AP)

Andretti Autosport owner Michael Andretti is teaming with Richard Petty to field a car for his cousin John Andretti in the Indianapolis 500. The deal with Petty and sponsor Window World, which fielded John Andretti’s car in last year’s race, starts with his May 1 debut at Kansas Speedway in the Izod IndyCar Series race.
