The New Jersey Nets fired coach Lawrence Frank on Sunday after losing their first 16 games during one of the worst starts in NBA history. Assistant Tom Barrise will coach the team Sunday night in Los Angeles against the Lakers, when the Nets could tie the record for the worst start if they lose. The Nets said a permanent replacement for Frank hasn't been determined.

Darrelle Revis got the Jets' defense in the end zone for the first time this season and helped New York keep its slim playoff hopes alive. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell reportedly will expand restrictions on returning to games for players who sustain head trauma. Bengals running back Cedric Benson is inactive for the game against the Cleveland Browns, the second straight week he's been sidelined by a sprained hip. Rookie Bernard Scott started Sunday in place of Benson, who had been listed as questionable. Scott made his first NFL start last Sunday in Oakland and ran for 119 yards in a 20-17 loss to the Raiders.

Formula One driver Felipe Massa beat Michael Schumacher in a charity karting race on Sunday in his return to competition four months after a life-threatening accident. The Brazilian edged his former Ferrari teammate in the final race of the "International Challenge of the Stars" in southern Brazil, a weekend event hosted by Massa for the fifth straight year to aid local charities.

Belmont Stakes winner Summer Bird has been ruled out of next weekend's Japan Cup Dirt after a small chip was detected in his right front carpal bone. According to the colt's owner, Dr. Kalarikkal Jayaraman, the chip was detected following the 3-year-old colt's trackwork at the race's venue Hanshin Race Course on Sunday morning.

Georgia came out running and never slowed down. When it was done, the Bulldogs had a huge upset that took some of the sting out of their disappointing season, while the Atlantic Coast Conference was left with a huge letdown for a championship game. Taking a page out of Georgia Tech's playbook, Georgia rushed for 339 yards to beat the seventh-ranked Yellow Jackets 30-24 Saturday night.
